Who are your clients?
I help coaches and other heart-centered entrepreneurs apply technology to grow their businesses.
My clients are very good at what they do, but they often struggle with the business side of things. Sometimes it’s because they don’t know the right steps, and sometimes it’s because they know what to do, but they just aren’t getting it done. And they certainly don’t want to spend their time and energy figuring out how to outsmart their technology.
How do you work? What can I expect?
We’ll start with an assessment of your business and look at what we can do to grow it. We’ll also complete a technology assessment to help me understand your current knowledge and comfort with your technology and help me understand your business.
We will work together to identify the areas where we can make changes to grow your business. I’ll introduce tools to help with those changes. But while I love technology, I don’t want to foist it on you. If a technology tool is appropriate, I’ll introduce it. In some cases, this may mean learning how to use a new app or program. In other cases, it may mean learning to be more efficient with the tools you already have.
What if I’m not real comfortable with technology?
First, let’s be very clear that I am not going to try to get you to use technology for technology’s sake. Most of my clients do not feel overly comfortable with technology. Many know they need to use it, but they’ve had bad experiences in the past.
Personally, I love technology. New technologies usually come pretty easy to me, and I enjoy learning about new technologies. But I realize everyone is not that way. My passion is recognizing where technology is truly helpful, and helping others learn to benefit from it. But I realize that technology doesn’t always work as well as it should, and sometimes it’s overkill for the task at hand.
Are you a technology expert?
Well, I don’t know that question really has an answer. Technology is constantly evolving, so “expert” is kind of a fluid label. However, I think I’ve always enjoyed tinkering with technology. For example, in sixth grade, I became fascinated with computers. I read about computers, earned my Boy Scout Computer merit badge, did school projects about computers… I was so taken with computers that eventually my mother forbade me to say the word “computer” (which I worked around by saying “that word Mom won’t let me say” and then continuing on with my story)
After graduating from college with a double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, I worked in software development for about 15 years, then transitioned into management, systems engineering, and technical sales. I earned an MBA along the way.
I’ve always enjoyed researching new technologies and learning as much about them as I can. I guess that’s why I ended up being the “family IT director” and a “go to” guy for friends and coworkers.
What kinds of technology can you help me with?
I focus on Mac and Windows computers, and iPhone and Android phones and tablets.
My system uses existing apps to help you work more efficiently.
If you are considering purchasing a new phone or computer, please contact me and let’s talk before you buy, so that you an be sure you are getting a device that will work for you instead of against you.
Why can’t I sign up for just one session with you?
I am not the guy that “parachutes in” takes control of your computer, and fixes it. (I have friends who do that, if that’s what you need).
I am the guy who can help you learn to apply technology easily and effectively to grow your business. But this process takes a small investment of time up front. First, I want to understand your business and your needs so that we can work on the correct solutions.
Secondly, it takes time to learn new habits. By working in multiple sessions, you will have the time to learn new tools and techniques, practice applying them, and be sure you are reaping their benefits.
What results can I expect?
Well, everyone’s results are different. Let me be clear that you will have to do some work to truly reap the benefits. I can show you new systems, apps and techniques, but if you don’t apply them — and don’t develop the habits to apply them consistently — you won’t achieve the full extent of the benefits.
But my clients typically:
Why do I need you? Can’t I just do this on my own?
While it’s true most of the information you need is available in books or on the Internet, it isn’t really all about information. (If it were, there would only be one book on dieting and one book on finances, and we’d all be the perfect weight and all be rich).
Yes, you can learn much of what I teach you by reading books or surfing the web and finding articles. But is this your genius work? Would you rather spend your time searching for information, sorting through multiple responses (some of which conflict with each other), figuring out what actually applies to your situation? Or would you rather spend your time doing the work you are passionate about, that you created your business to do in the first place?
I sort through the vast amount of information out there, and bring you just what you need. If you read all the tech reviews, you may think you need every new app and the newest or most expensive hardware available, when in actuality, a mid-range product and the apps that ship with it will more than meet your needs.
I’m really busy and overwhelmed. How much time is involved before I get results?
If you are busy and overwhelmed, then you will certainly benefit from my programs! I help you develop better focus and clear your mind so you can think more creatively and clearly. As Michael Port says, “Overwhelm is often not having too much to do; it’s not knowing the next right step.” My programs also help you not only figure out those “next right steps” but get them done!
Why does your web site have pictures of mountains? That’s not what I expected from a “tech guy.”
I’ll admit that when I first started out, I was thinking of using pictures of various technology gadgets. You know, something that says, “Look at all the gadgets I have. Aren’t I cool?” But as I developed the business, I realized that it’s not about my cool tech gadgets. It’s about you and your business. And how much better and less stressed you’ll feel as your business becomes more successful. So I decided to use pictures that depict the stress-free feeling you’ll have when you’re applying technology to grow your business.
These pictures were taken in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, one of my favorite vacation spots and where I like to go when I need to unplug. Yes, even a tech guy like me needs to unplug and rejuvenate periodically. When I do, I like to get out in nature.
Where do you work?
I can work with clients almost anywhere. We can meet virtually, using easy-to-use screen sharing software so that I can show you a technique, and then you can practice it with me watching (and coaching, if needed).
If you live in the Raleigh, NC area, I’d love to meet you. Do you have a favorite networking group you go to? Please let me know. I always enjoy meeting other business owners. You might also consider joining Indieconomy.
